This is another week of heavy hitters. But before we get to the raves, Lord Napier Star in Hackney Wick is under threat from nearby residential development (read here). Save Our Scene has put together a pre-written email you can send to Tower Hamlets Council to help protect the venue from future noise complaints. If you do one good deed today, let it be this.
Now for this week’s plan.
After playing a surprise slot at DJ Boring’s pop-up at Shoreditch Grind last Thursday, DJ Seinfeld is back with a live set at Outernet this Thursday. Or if you want something free and bass-heavy, Bakey is at Mixmag Lab.
For Friday, I especially want to shout out Soft Domination’s first anniversary at Radial, organised by one of London’s most exciting up-and-coming DJs, LO-LOW. The party champions BIPOC and queer artists by breaking down conventional club sounds & standards through a soft and kind lens. This is where the cool kids will be. Elsewhere, drum and bass legend Andy C lands at E1 for a three-hour set, while Kode9, Introspekt and DJ Spinn will be spinning some juke and footwork at Palais.
On Saturday, Max Cooper is taking over fabric’s main room all night long. If you’ve never seen him DJ before, then expect the unexpected, with crazy drops, left turns, and plenty of genre-hopping in the best way possible. DVS1 and Dasha Rush take over Room 2 for banging techno, while underground promoter Repetitive Nature is taking over Room 3.
Also on Saturday, Jamie Jones inaugurates the newly minted Ironworks, a 7000-capacity superclub from the team behind Drumsheds and Printworks. If you like daytime parties with big names, big production, big prices, and maybe a little less soul, do investigate and report back to me.
Sunday, you can choose to keep the spirit of techno alive with Alan Fitzpatrick at The Glove That Fits, go deeper and minimal with Secretsundaze and Voigtmann at The Timber Loft, or do what I would do and head to qürbət: sounds of exile for ambient and downtempo sets from DJs playing music rooted in their cultures and backgrounds.
